Family and loved ones are what weddings are all about! Beyond being a maid of honor or best man, there are ways that couples can incorporate family and friends into their special day. Spotlighting the special people in your lives will make a wedding day even more memorable.
Symbol of love: This can be a great way to honor the adage “something old” by featuring something special during the ceremony or reception. This might be wearing an aunt’s piece of jewelry or displaying a treasured family heirloom.
Collage in time: Photos are a great way to honor the past. Couples can put together favorite pictures of family and friends or even a special tribute to all of their loved ones’ special days by gathering parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles or siblings’ wedding day photos.
Brides’ walk: While the tradition is to have the father give away the bride, the processional is an opportunity to bring in other family members for a unique walk down the aisle. This can be done with many people at the same time or the bride can meet different people on her way to the altar.
Talent on display: Singing family members can have a special place on stage at the reception or talented individuals can play a musical instrument or lead a dance to bring everyone together.
Honoring heritage: Family traditions should be included and led by the loves one most knowledgeable or passionate about these meaningful gestures.
Special bouquet: Adding the favorite flowers of mothers, grandmothers and future in-laws is a subtle, but strong way to emphasize the family. Brides can walk down the aisle carrying a mixture of distinctive blooms.
Cool ride: If a loved one has a classic car, ask them to be your special chauffeur to the wedding ceremony and include the vehicle in some of your photos as well. The drive will give the couple time to connect with this special person.
In memory: While weddings are the happiest of occasions, couples also want to remember those who have passed on. This can be done more openly with a moment of silence or lighting of a remembrance candle or more subtly through music or flower selection.
